I’ve had a realization: crystals are to muggles what wands are to wizards. There’s a little SAT prep for you.
There’s a feature on the Wizarding World website about wandlore, and essentially, wands are made out of different kinds of woods and cores that hold different qualities. This combination of wood and core (for example: rowan wood and dragonheartstring core) creates a unique wand that will desire specific qualities within the witch or wizard wielding it. As Ollivander tells Harry, “The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter…It is not always clear why.” Shame you couldn’t hear my impression of him just then. It was pretty good if I do say so myself.
It occurred to me that this is similar to how muggles use crystals. Crystals carry specific vibrations and frequencies. Every piece of matter on this planet carries a frequency, in fact, because everything is composed of atoms. The way that those atoms are structured determines what the object’s vibration will be.
Wizards and witches use their wands to project their magic outwards to channel their magic. Even if a muggle waved a magic wand, it wouldn’t work for them because they do not have magic innate within them, despite the wand containing magical items within it. This is similar to crystals in the sense that they are most effective for us when we hold them and charge them with our intention.
It is our intention combined the crystal’s resonant frequencies that creates the most powerful results. If we expect a crystal to do the heavy lifting in creating the changes we wish to see in our environment, sure – maybe something will shift and the crystal’s energy will influence our environment subtly. But just like a muggle waving a magical wand – it won’t be as effective as it could be. It is more magical and powerful when you hold a crystal and charge it with your intention. When you direct your own energy – your own magic – through the crystal to work for you.
We ourselves carry frequencies. Our emotions are just electrical impulses signaling out into our environment. If that emotional signal is in alignment with the vibration of the crystal, this can be an effective way to achieve your intention. For example: if you are holding a rose quartz crystal whose properties include creating feelings of love, and you yourself project emotions of gratitude and love, this will amplify the energy of the crystal.
This is just like how wands work for wizards. Certain wands are known to attract dark wizards, and are themselves effective in performing dark magic: therefore, the wands recognized a compatible energy. Throughout the series we see examples of characters using someone else’s wand, and it doesn’t quite perform well for them – because they are not in alignment with its energy. Your energy and your intention should match the energy and properties of the crystals that you are trying to use for a specified purpose.
