The North Node and South Node

The North Node and the South Node. The Dragon’s Head and the Dragon’s Tail. Rahu and Ketu. These are the nodes of destiny in astrology.

The South Node represents our past lifetimes. The sign on the South Node indicates an energy in which we are comfortable with. The astrological house within our natal chart that the South Node falls into represents an area of life that we have mastered already in past lifetimes – it comes very easily to us.

The sign that the North Node is in represents an energy that we are very uncomfortable with, and the house that the North Node falls into represents an area of life that we are not at all familiar with. This area of life might frighten us, because we have no experience with it – though we may desire to inhabit this area of life. The North Node is something we should aim for in this lifetime if we’d like to challenge the growth of our soul. As the astrologer Bryan Colter puts it, the North Node is a “good idea for this lifetime.”

The great thing about astrology is that it makes us conscious of these aspects of ourselves that we could’ve been playing out unconsciously. Astrology is like a cheat sheet to understanding the soul. And to embark on the journey of challenging yourself to reach your North Node – that is the hero’s journey. If you’d like to read about a main character embarking on such a journey, you can purchase my book here!

May you prevail upon the eternal quest!
